Volunteer cooperation

LWBC was created with the aim of enabling Canadian legal professionals to contribute to efforts for international solidarity by using their professional experience to help partners in vulnerable or developing countries. Volunteer commitment is at the heart of all of its work.

LWBC is keen to ensure that management is professional, efficient, and innovative during implementation of its interventions and projects through placing volunteers on the ground. All of LWBC's international cooperation projects are implemented in this way. It is these volunteers who make their expertise available to our local partners. In the spirit of collective responsibility and based on the basic principle of subsidiarity, together they achieve results that will leave a legal, technical, and human legacy within the supported groups.

Internships

Whether for internships focused on legal, program management, or administration, we welcome young students with a passion for the values of humanity, justice, and cooperation. Working with us, you will see how a succession of small actions creates an extraordinary ripple effect in the countries in which we are involved.

We thus hope to help strengthen the skills of our young professionals by sharing effective working methods, but also by making it possible to better understand how respect for human rights helps change behaviour and allows communities to develop.

To complete an internship with LWBC in the autumn, summer, or winter sessions, simply respond to the published calls for applicants or submit a spontaneous application describing the type of internship you are seeking. Check our Facebook page, Twitter account and LinkedIn profile regularly to keep up to date with the opportunities available to you!

Volunteering

LWBC has multiple needs. We often require the services of lawyers and legal professionals for our projects and also work with dozens of volunteers for our communication, financing, and administration activities, and for our community work. Legal training is therefore not a requirement for becoming a volunteer with LWBC.

Volunteering assignments for LWBC are awarded on the basis of both the organization's needs and capacity, and on the skills and availability of the candidate. LWBC cannot thus immediately involve everyone who generously offers to help us, but we are always delighted to welcome new and passionate people onto our team.

If you want to work with us, check out the opportunities available to you!

University groups

LWBC is proud to count on the support of six university groups in Quebec and the rest of Canada, based at the following universities: Laval University, McGill University, Université de Montréal, the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), the University of Sherbrooke and the University of Ottawa.

These university groups help increase LWBC's influence and raise awareness among young law students and the public with regard to human rights issues, while allowing us to benefit from the legal expertise of Canadian law faculties through legal research studies carried out by students, some of which are directed by members of the teaching staff.
